The easy answer: there’s a time and place for it. It’s another tool in the tool box. It’s important to note that ligaments are like plastic, once they’re stretched they can’t go back. Muscles and tendons are like elastic, they can rebound back to their original state (as long as they aren’t completely ruptured and need surgery, obviously). So will yoga directly make an impact on a ligament? Probably not on the ligament itself. Where it helps the most is with overall joint and muscle mobility/flexibility and proprioception (awareness and position of the body in space). The more flexible someone is, the less likely they are to be injured. Also, with improved proprioception maybe the body is able to keep itself out of a vulnerable position. Bottom line is non-contact injuries (which a majority of ACL injuries are, I’m not sure if Seth’s was contact or non-contact) are freak injuries and can be hard to prevent.

Because of this, a high percentage of athletes and their surgeons choose to use an autograft (tissue from the athlete). Most choose a BPTB (bone-patellar tendon-bone) graft. They choose this because the bone plugs on each end of the graft anchor in much more securely and heal better. A common secondary option is a hamstring graft. But what do I know, I have only studied athletic training for 4 years, hot shot.

From what I've heard, Seth's injury was non-contact.

    Thanks for the feedback!

I think the amount of specific strenght training athletes do now makes them very injuy prone. My experience with extensive long distance running is most injuries are overtraining or ill fitting footwear. Alternating shoes and walking/running backwards developed opposing muscle development keep me injury free for over 20 years. Coaching science is very good today, but trial and error still has a place. Hopefully the team and trainers can get the right formula for minimal down time for the young men.

The amount of work he's put in to get back onto the field time after time only to have it cut short by multiple knee injuries truly sucks.

I thought their defense was a little over the top on several plays. For example, I noticed one play where a Youngstown player threw our running back down aggressively after the whistle, and another hitting our receiver obviously on the way out of bounds below the knees.
