Let our inside guys also apply.
Agreed. You're limiting yourself if you set your sights on only hiring within or those that have a past history with your program.

The only thing that sucks about this is the open records laws...Would the talent pool miss out on some great candidates because they are afraid to have their names out there for their current employers to see?

I don't think it's a big deal to any of them. There should be an expectation your successful coaches are going to be either courted by bigger programs or they are going to throw an application out there every so often.

There aren't too many destination jobs in the athletic world. The number of coaches with the kind of job security from their employer's end that could be considered lock down is a handful, at best. Movement is always part of the picture.

The one group you always have to tread lightly with when it comes to this reality is recruits. They want the illusion of stability and their guy is going to coach them for as long as they are there.

I dont think Klieman is looking to move. Bohl was always looking to climb. Right up to Lariamie. Yikes. Not exactly a step up. Thats where semi's go to wreck. Best thing about that place, other than chili's, is ft collins is 90 minutes away, on good roads

I'm sure Mussman is available, possibly even Brewster, for those of you who want a bigger name with P5 experience.

How about Charley Weis and his NFL experience with New England, the NY Jets, and Kansas City? He also had D-I football experience at Notre Dame and Kansas.

That is cute you call coaching at Kansas as D1 experience. Lol

In my humble opinion, there are a few small examples that can favor both sides of this discussion. Brad Stephens was selling pharm like 10 years ago, he may be the best in the business now. I am just saying that I would like our current guys to get a look, as well as listen to see who else we receive resumes from. I have argued this for years....and really wish we would have seen who was interested in other sports when we made some of our hires.

NDSU is a national brand. It is a different position than it was 10 years ago. A tremendous opportunity for someone and I think we would be impressed with who would apply. I am couldn't be happier with who we currently have as assistants and we may have some on staff that will deserve a look if the position were to open up next year after we go undefeated.
Everyone just relax, all right? Believe me, if there's one thing Ron Burgundy knows, it's women.
