Why does every thread on here have to moving to the FBS. NDSU could win 100 playoff games by 50 points and that has no bearing on an FBS move. I mean, Coastal Carolina wasn’t exactly an FCS powerhouse and they moved up. Why? For the same reason every team can and does. Conference affiliation and money.

I love it. Hail the Bison!
And are 28-2 with 6 National Championships!!!
Because if we went FBS, we would likely switch conferences to a G5. In order to not be a bottom feeder in everything but football, we would have to raise our coaching salaries to at least compete for coaches in the same class as our new conference-mates. And it's not just head coaches' salaries. One reason Bison FB is successful is that we pay our assistant coaches way more than the FCS average. Or even the MVFC average. That allows us to keep coaching continuity, which keeps the program strong. Doing the same for our assistant coaches' salaries in a G5 conference would require a whole lotta extra green.
NDSU has 14 head coaches, 43 assistant coaches or directors of operations, 4 S&C coaches, and 7 paid sports medicine staff. And the number of assistant coaches would probably need to go up in a G5 conference, since I don't think we are maxed out in all sports.
And that still doesn't take into account likely higher travel and recruiting costs.
