In the 2016-2017 academic year student fees at NDSU accounted for $1,419,057 in revenue for the athletic department. At UND it was $3,341,123 so more than double (and with a smaller undergrad enrollment).

Also of note JMU's athletic revenue from student fees was $36,279,395 for the same year (and no that number is not a typo).

Thank you. I am sure if the numbers were reversed, the legislature would be up in arms.

Holy crap, that's about $1700 per student. Hard to believe a public institution can get away with that. I mean who the hell would willingly go to a school that charges that much for athletics?

Port and Joel H. will accurately report this?

Perhaps this has been mentioned but I pulled out a piece of paper with our daughters Ndsu tuition/fee info: 2017-2018
Fees per year: $1344.72 ($672.36/semester) (Fees per credit $56.03 - 12 credits is full time)
    Fees include:
Activity Fee, Memorial Union Bond, Student Health fee, Wellness Center fee, Library fee, Career Services fee, Tech fee includes ND Univ System fee which includes Campus Connections.
If you would like to see the breakdown:
Activity Fee $159.48, Memorial Union Bond $46.20, Student Health $75.48, Wellness Center $150.68, Library fee $43.20, Career Services $22, Tech fee $108.84, NDUS fee .48cents, Campus Connection fee $66.
Tuition undergraduate for ND $3600/semester - MN $4032/semester (We (MN) paid $354.90 per credit) ND pays $316.88 per credit
I have a feeling our daughter didn't step foot inside the Library! But she graduates in May & going onto grad school!

But electronic access to journals, books, etc costs libraries money even if she never did physically go there. (Can't believe I am defending a fee!)

UND's student fees are $612.24 for a student taking a full load...according to the "Dakota Student", just under 30% of that goes to athletics, so approximately $180.00 or so..at NDSU, full load fees are $497.04, with $159.48 designated as activity fees...I believe about a third of that goes to athletics, so roughly $55 per student (estimated)....Students at both schools also have to pay roughly another $150 in tech fees, NDSA fees, and Connect ND fees....

That's correct, across both sets of fees...I rounded so I was a little off, but it's $497.04 for the in-house fees, and another $175.42 for the tech fee and the system fees, so $672.36 total....UND's total, in contrast, is $750.72: $612.24 for the in-house fees, $138.48 for the tech and system fees....the tech fee at NDSU is significantly higher than the one at UND....
