I doubt this. Hurts dropping to FCS would kill his chances at the NFL.
FAU maybe, USD.. doubt it.
I'd think he'd have his choice of schools in the south, too, but why would it hurt (no pun intended) his chances? I wouldn't say that to Carson or Garoppolo (granted, they didn't transfer "down"). Seems as if good QB play is good QB play no matter where it's at. Maybe not as visible but it can work.

That really is a crazy story. 26-2 as a starter and because of 1 half of football he will probably be benched in the upcoming season if he were to stay at Alabama. A very good dual threat QB but no where near the arm as his successor. Of course, 99.99% of QBs in college football has no where near the arm of Hurts' successor. Apparently Saban loves Hurts and wants nothing to do with benching him, so he will just stand back and let his OC take care of it. That is a stand up guy.
