I was pretty pumped about James Madison last year, UNI, the epic SDSU playoff game, Montana, and the Championship game vs Illinois State was epic. Jacksonville State would have been fun

Of course I'm more excited about this years Championship game than any FCS game probably ever

Bahama's bowl is where it is at...
So we took a ship down to the Bahamas to see Ohio play UAB, and it has been nothing short of amazing (and honestly, questionable).
Here's a short list of things we've done here at the game so far:

-Brought beer right in to the stadium. The locals at the gate didn't even ask to check tickets. One of them took a sip of my beer.

-We walked all the way around the stadium, until we reached a fenced off area. A Royal Bahamas Defense Force guard said we should check behind the fence, because he doesn't know what's back there. Upon walking past the fence, we ended up in the Ohio locker room. No questions asked.

-People are constantly walking on the athletic track around the field and chugging beer. The security forces down there just keep laughing and high fiving everyone. One of the soldiers keeps hugging random fans.

-There's a native family in front of me literally braiding eachother's hair. They told me they have no clue about how football works. They just want to have a good time. One of them offered to braid my hair. My hair is 3 inches long.

-They were doing a T-Shirt toss, and one of the Bahamian families here straight up jumped three rows down onto a group of fans just to grab a shirt. They ended up getting two.

-A drunk fan just walked on to the sideline and high fived a player. He then high fived a Royal Bahamian Defense Force soldier when walking back. The soldier couldn't stop laughing.

-There's like 20 entrances to this stadium, and only like 10 of them are guarded. Literally anyone could walk in here. -They have one working scoreboard, and instead of showing the clock, it's the ESPN feed so you can barely see the score and clock on the bottom right corner.

-Whoever's in charge of music can't decide the volume. He tried playing Believer and adjusted the volume up and down around 4 times before giving up. There hasn't been any music since.

Bowls are boring. Seed the top 24 teams like FCS does, have a real tournament like every other real college sport and let the mid level conference foes play in their stupid sponsor bowls. Problem solved and real winner determined the old fashioned way.

too much money and shit for any of that to happen even though itd be awesome. I think having a eight team playoff, 5 conference champs, 3 at larges(who knows when it comes to having an undefeated G5 team(UCF, Boise etc)). or a 6 team playoff with top 2 teams getting a bye would work. 4 is clearly not enough when 3 are conference champs and 2 are from the same conference and 1 didnt win its own division, but theyre in because of their name and theyre a team nobody wants to face.

This is the bowls dirty little secret. Money. Someone correct me if I'm wrong...don't the schools pay money to go play? And some schools depending on conference and lose money on the deal?
I don't care how the vote ended up. They still suck and always will.

I don't know that they technically pay to play, but there are expenses associated. They are reimbursed to a large extent, but it's very possible their expenses outpace their reimbursement. But there is still value in branding/PR for participation.

I also presume that some of the lesser bowls make money as a result of the higher bowls (i.e. advertising packages that include all bowls). If they went to a full playoff you would have 15-23 games (assuming 16/24 games) rather than 40+ bowls games today. Will those collectively generate more money than the current bowl games? I have no idea. If they went to a larger playoff they would have to get away from the neutral sites for playoff games because teams would have a hard time getting their fans to travel 4-5 times to watch their team. That would undoubtedly end the major bowls as we know it. And the popularity of the lower bowls would be even less than they are today. I think they would also have to reduce the regular season by 1 game or get rid of the conference championship games. That's also a huge loss of revenue for the P5 programs. As successful and popular as a playoff system would be, the loss of revenue would be hard to overcome.

I'm personally a huge fan of the bowl games, and I'll watch any of them. It's still college football and there are some cool matchups, even with the 6 and 7-win teams. I've always said they should either stick with a bowl system and get rid of the concept of a national champion or eliminate the bowls and go to a bigger playoff.

I thought there was a a gopher bowl game a few years back where they were going to lose money cuz they couldn't sell tickets. I think the big 10 covers part of their costs but not all bowl teams are from the big ten. I think they have to commit to paying for so many tickets whether they sell them or not. So there are some up front costs to the schools. I could be wrong though.

That sounds awful. Don't ruin the best regular season in sports.

6 or 8 would be fine. Any more than that and it gets watered down bigly.

Never understood that logic. Especially with injury issues etc. Shouldn't the champion be determined by who had a great regular season and who can run the gauntlet of a playoff like every other real college sport?

Plug your logic into NCAA men's basketball.
