Re: Bison in the Rankings
Some rankings guys will listen to gripes. Andrew Spey posted this in the stock up/down report https://www.flowrestling.org/article...-reno-quietude :
"Buy Or Sell - YOU MAKE THE CALL - 157-Pounders
Our current rankings have the second half of 157 pounds listed as No. 10 Luke Zilverberg, No. 11 Hayden Hidlay, No. 12 Jake Short, No. 13 Clay Ream, No. 14 Cole Hammond, and No. 15 Colin Heffernan. But is that right? Are we too kind to Zilverberg and too harsh with Ream? Zilverberg has a win over Short, who has a win over Ream, who has a win over Zilverberg, who has a win over Archie Colgan, who has a win over Hammond, who has a win over Ream, et cetera, et cetera.
While they are all very close, perhaps the exact order needs to be changed upon further review, and now would be the time to make a bet an any of them being either under- or overvalued."
I may have emailed him (and not Pyles) something along the lines of:
"Zilverberg and Ream's rankings really don't make sense.
Zilverberg has nothing in his resume to indicate a #10 ranking is deserved at this point (and I love the kid as a wrestler).
Ream's performance at CKLV is overblown too. His losses were to Panataleo and Hammond, who he won the takedown battle 5-1 vs (kind of incredible that anyone won the TD battle 5-1 and still lost). His win vs Moore at CKLV looks even better now that Moore beat Rahmani too.
If we're comparing career wins, Ream has several wins over AAs (Henderson, H. Stieber, Kindig, Mastriani, and Kocer), where Z has none.
Z got beat pretty badly by Ream this year (8-3). Ream's losses are to Hammond, Pantaleo, and Kemmerer (not a bad one in the bunch). To tie the last couple together, Ream beat Shields last year 8-4, and Shields has been a one man wrecking crew this year and beat Z.
Ream beat Blaylock this year, who beat Short this year. Plus we've all seen how Short looks this year too, so I don't see how he is ahead of Ream.
It would make more sense to have something like:
10. Hidlay
11. Hammond
12. Ream
13. Z (still too high based on his wins)
14. Short (I'm a MN fan, and think this is still too high based on this year's results)
15. Heff (he's way better than 15th but I get that he lost to Short last year and had the bad VT loss this yr).
Obviously this isn't a huge deal. I'm a MN/NDSU/MN HS wrestler fan so I follow Z, Ream, and Short really closely and this has been bugging me.
Thanks for taking the time to read this, and keep up the good work."
Will the rankings change? Maybe.
Does it matter? Not really.

Re: Bison in the Rankings
Britt Malinsky, AKA SetonHallPirate, released an update to his rankings and there are some interesting Bison rankings. For those unfamiliar, his rankings rank all D1 starters plus they throw in the backups and redshirts where they should go. It's good gauge for the coaches panel rankings and RPI. Some Bison rankings:
125- Bianchi is #22, right ahead of Connor Brown of SDSU and behind Mike Russo of Cornell. Bianchi beat Russo and Brown beat Bianchi, but that is what his rankings formula says. I think this is the most accurate representation of Bianchi's results this year so far.
133- Sykora is #20, right behind Rico Montoya of Northern Colorado. Montoya has had a good season, but Cam destroyed him last year. If Midkiff were announced the starter tomorrow, he'd be the 53rd ranked starter.
141- Hampton is the 49th ranked starter. Nico would be 71st and Nein would be 74th
149- Gliva is 25th and Bengston would be 24th. I think this is the most accurate ranking for Gliva yet, and gives him credit for his solid results. Macololooy is 21st and Gliva just beat him. He has a bunch of matches upcoming vs guys ranked right around him, including Lee of Pitt, who is #22.
157- Ream is 13th and Mergen would be 57th.
165- Fogarty is 17th, right in Front of Romero of UVU who beat him.
174- Clingenpeel is 51st, while Shearer would be 59th and Popp would be 66th.
184- McNutt is 55th
197- Eaton is 34th. Again, this is higher than most other rankings, but far more accurate IMO.
HWT- Stibral is 38th and Metz would be 34th. Stibral is right ahead of Pelusi, who beat him and behind Dennison and Correnti who also beat him. He has beaten #33 Myers.
NDSU is 25th in the dual rankings and their opponent tomorrow, Pitt, is 26th.
If you go by the rankings, Bianchi, Sykora, Gliva, Ream, and Fogarty would all be NCAA qualifiers, with Stibral and Eaton close to breaking into that territory.

Re: Bison in the Rankings
First coaches panel rankings have been released and they aren't particularly kind to NDSU.
http://www.ncaa.com/news/wrestling/a...-coaches-panel
No Bianchi
Cam at #27
Gliva at #28
Ream at #9
Fogarty at #18
No Eaton
Stibral tied for #33
DeCessare from AFA being ranked #32 and not Bianchi is a head scratcher to me. For SDSU, Mueller is at #23 at 184...which must be a joke.

Re: Bison in the Rankings
Latest DPI rankings with only the SDSU dual left before conferences get AQ allocations. These aren't the official rankings for AQ spots, but they're the closest thing to it. Here are the guys from NDSU with a chance to earn the conference an AQ spot and there SDSU opponent if they're ranked fairly high
Bianchi is #23, Connor Brown of SDSU is #21
Sykora is #23, Gross of SDSU is #1
Gliva is #27
Ream is #11, Zilverberg of SDSU is #15
Fogarty is #21
Eaton is #37, Rotert of SDSU is #12

Re: Bison in the Rankings
AQ Qualifying Spot will use the following criteria: Win %, RPI, & Coaches Rankings. Note: A wrestler must have a minimum of 17 D1 Matches to qualify an AQ Spot. The Committee will utilize three levels Gold, Silver and Bronze. A wrestler who meets All three Criteria of Win % over 70%, Top 30 RPI, & Top 30 Coaches Ranking will be considered Gold and a Silver level will have met 2 out of the 3. Bronze is a bit more complicated but you must be a minimum of Bronze to be considered for an At-Large Bid. Also the Committee reserves the right to slide the scale to Top 20 on the criteria if need be.
