JMU got into the bowl game out of luck this year. Had enough teams had a .500 record, they would have been shut out. They were only allowed in due to bylaws that state transitioning teams can only get in if there aren't enough teams over .500 and thus bowl eligible.
Regardless, still impressive what they have done and how Phoenix has been utilized by a different coaching system and football program.

Because “big time” FBS is really all about the P4 schools, in case you haven’t noticed. Those better bowls will all go to 6-6 P4 teams, with perhaps a couple top AAC teams (Tulane, SMU) sprinkled in.
