IMO, I think a lot of the ill-will toward Phoenix is that he's bolting mid-season. If he would have announced his entry into the portal as a Grad Transfer at the end of last year, the news may have been received differently; but, instead, he made this big, elaborate video "announcing" his return, then left the program after a handful of games.

How do we know Entz didn’t make him enter the portal? He couldn’t play any other games this year to still have a year of eligibility left so when he told the coaches they may have told him to enter the transfer portal now. It would be weird to tell the coaches you want to stay on the team for the rest of the season but not want to play. He is buried on the depth chart so why not transfer if you can find more playing time

When asked at the press conference Entz said he was suprised he entered the portal so I doubt he was told to enter it by the coaches.
