Default Savannah State To Drop Down to D2

One of the weakest FCS programs has decided to move down to D2...The Tigers' record since 2010: 8-68...

WJCL 22 News has learned that Savannah State University will drop all sports from NCAA Division I to NCAA Division II in Fall 2019.

Sources telling Sports Director Frank Sulkowski that the move is a financial one. Unless a substantial influx of money comes into the SSU Athletic Department, the move will occur.

Savannah State currently holds membership in NCAA Division I and the Mid Eastern Athletic Conference.

Agree with you guys... if your football team needs to play numerous "body bag" games against the FBS to fund your athletic program -- you need to reconsider the decision to go to Division 1. Also, if your in Division 1, mainly because of your basketball program, and you field a non-scholarship football program (per the Dayton Rule) -- You need to drop football -- either fully fund your football program, or leave.

I am tired of these glorified "club sport" programs that claim to be competing at the Division 1 level -- they give the FCS a bad name... the sooner they drop down, or eliminate football, the better!

Agree. The one benefit from the expansion that I didn't fully realize initially is that more teams now have late season games that may mean something (see UNI after their normal sub .500 first half of the season) and this should get more butts in the seats in November at these schools. Not sure it really works this way. But, ultimately the pathetic attendance at first round playoff games is embarrassing as is the stupid regionalization and how committee seeds according to travel costs so much.

    This.

Go back to 16 teams. Make it a national tournament.
Many thousands are in want of common necessaries; hundreds of thousands are in want of common comforts, sir."
Scrooge-"Are there no prisons?". "Plenty of prisons..."
Scrooge-"And the Union workhouses." . "Are they still in operation?". "Both very busy, sir..."
"Those who are badly off must go there."
"Many can't go there; and many would rather die."
Scrooge- "If they would rather die," "they had better do it, and decrease the surplus population."
