It's not even the same campus as when I was in school there 25 years ago. Not even close. If anything it is SDSU that is playing catch-up there. Second, the DakotaDome has undergone tweaks but is up for a major renovation and expansion project, so that is coming. As far as a recruit is concerned, it doesn't matter what the concourse looks like, or the concession stand, all that matters is that when you are on the field you are surrounded by a place that is jumping, and when the DakotaDome is full it is an awesome place to play for the home team, that place gets loud and is electric. But as far as facilities go, USD football has one of the best weight training and athletic performance facilities in the Midwest, period, it rivals FBS schools. Finally, USD has never had the same recruiting strategy as SDSU. The Jacks have always scooped up more in-state players while USD, given its location, is heavier on recruits from Iowa and Nebraska, plus USD has a history of pulling players out of Florida, Texas, California, and all points in between going as far back as the 1970's. Some of the best players in USD history have come out of places as far away as Florida. SDSU can pull whatever local players they want, that's nothing new. We're in on plenty of good players right now. I'm not worried about this staff's recruiting ability.
I agree with you. The Dakota dome isn't that bad and the atmosphere is actually pretty decent when it's full. With a renovation it will only be better.

You're right recruits don't care about crappy restrooms and concessions because they don't use them.

The overall campus is actually pretty nice.

This is correct. South Dakota has Constitutional/statutory authority to fund campus building projects using bonds sold by the South Dakota Building Authority. The bonds are typically repaid using the income stream from the building constructed through the bond proceeds. E.g. a new dormitory's rental income would be used to repay bonds sold to finance the construction of the dorm. When using bonding to fund construction of a sports facility, one has to keep in mind the repayment of the bonds consumes some or all of the income stream from the building. Case in point was the original construction of the Dakota Dome. The Dome didn't do much for improving cash flow at USD because the gate receipts were used to repay bonds. Going forward, the size of the Dakota Dome (seating just under 10,000) will always limit the amount of gate receipts for football. When SDSU constructed its new stadium, an approx. $65 million facility, around one-half of the cost came from bonding. The sooner those bonds are repaid, the better the stadium will contribute to the financial well-being of the athletic dept. While filling the new stadium for every home game is the goal, the steadily-improving attendance figures cover the bonds well and add revenue to the athletic dept. Compare: SDSU's "SJAC" indoor track and practice facility, an approx. $35 million facility used no bonding -- it was constructed with donated funds. (Makes sense: the SJAC will produce some income but not much.)

The size of a school's endowment (I assume that's what Mr. Meaty referred to as the "size of the foundation") may not be particularly relevant if the endowment, in whole or in part, cannot be used to construct athletic facilities. E.g. while I am a Jackrabbit fan, I have donated to USD's Law School. The portion of the overall endowment attributed to Law School donations are not used for athletic facilities.

Whether you can admit it or not in your fantasy land SDSU's football program is light years ahead of the yotes right now. And I'll buy into the Dump getting renovated when there is an actual timeline for it starting within a year or two, and it's approved by the BOR. SDSU talked about renovating CAS for at least ten years, if not longer, before it actually happened.

Obviously that different recruiting strategy has payed off for the Yotes as well, with their numerous playoff appearances, wins, and rivalry wins since the turn of the century.

Girls, girls... You're both pretty. Pretty enough to be a cheerleader for the South Dakota school of your choice anyway.

Not MVFC but Princeton snagged a 4-star quarterback. Had him on the Dan Patrick Show.
