In basketball, goaltending is the violation of interfering with the ball while its on its way to the basket and it is (a) in a downward flight and might not go in, (b) entirely above the rim and has the possibility of entering the basket, and (c) not touching the rim.

I thought there was a rule about a hand in the net when the ball was over the rim also.

In this case I thought the ball was on the rim and the opposing player pulled the RIM DOWN using the net which caused the ball to bounce off the rim and away.
I suspect the coach will submit a poor report to the Summit League on these officials.
And yes the IUPUI coach was constantly complaining to the officials.

I am glad for NDSU to overcome it and win. Actually I felt NDSU missed enough layups the game never should have gone to overtime, but its is basketball and putting it in the hoop scores the points close does not count.

Great win! Man was it electric in the SHAC today. When that place is full it can get rocking!! Wish it could be like that every game. Win 2 more games and we are conference champs.

Thanks, but found this tidbit in a most misunderstood basketball rules site.\

    2. A player cannot touch the ball, ring, or net while the ball is on the ring or within the basket. A player cannot touch the ball if it is in the imaginary cylinder above the ring. These are examples of basket interference. It is legal to touch the ring or the net if the ball is above the ring and not touching the ring, even if the ball is in the imaginary cylinder above the ring. "It is legal to hang on the ring if a player is avoiding an injury to himself or herself or another player."

The part in quotes is probably what the official will use as the reasons it was not called. But why did only 1 official review it don't they usually have 2, and then call the 3rd in if they disagree.

Leathernecks have improved from the last time we played them. I think tonight was the loudest I've heard it this year. Both seniors played a great game. The no call goal tending call was terrible. The poor lady that face planted into the cement floor earlier this year face planted into the floor again tonight. Poor lady.

Usually when the officials go to the scoring table to review a play, at least two officials go. The review of the goal tending was only looked at by the official that made the call. Guess he didn't want to overrule his own call!

Maybe they were seeing if it was a flagrant foul? Hope so because they shouldn't be officiating a junior high game if they don't know what goaltending is!

Off topic... Crowd was electric. Not quite to football standards yet but we're working on it. I really like the league as a whole. All the games are fun

Watching from afar on the crowd. Seemed dead most of the game but got really loud at the end. It seems like a football crowd at a basketball game. Cheering loudly when the other team has the ball when the game was close. Basketball atmosphere needs to be different. It will probably only get better as we learn to be better basketball fans. But a more consistent atmosphere would be nice. This is mostly driven by the students and should be riling up the rest of the arena.

The crowd at the north end of the arena is always louder than the rest. I understand it is the basket of the opposition in the second half. But students are still extremely lacking on noise. The 20 members of the pep band are great. I have an older gentleman that sits in front of me and it is hard for him to get up and down. I told him last night if he wanted to continue to stand he could. I try and stand as much as I can. Crowd was electric last night down the stretch. Great win.

They can start by repealing and replacing the lame into video. Thunderstruck is not a basketball song. Seems like a poor mans version of a football intro.
