Could call it the Mountain East Conference and create a conference rivalry with the Mountain West Conference.

Maybe that leads to a combined super conference down the road. Conference Championship Games could be called "Kings/Queens of the Mountain Conference."

I just don't see the interest in going west. The Big Sky is a horrible basketball conference, and travel would suck. What does Montana, Montana St., Idaho? etc. bring to the table?

I can see if desperate times call for desperate matters, but the Summit hasn't lost anyone yet.

The best BB schools in the Big Sky have always been Montana and Weber. As for travel, no worse then IUPUI and IPFW because you are still along the I29 corridor for a lot of your games. We aren't talking about joining the BSC as it is today. You are talking about taking the top BSC schools (Idaho, Montana, Montana State), all schools identical to the four Dakota schools, adding in Weber or EWU and DU and Omaha or UNC. That would be a solid, stable all sports conference that would thrive in FB and BB.

The more I think about this the more I'm thinking that maybe USD should have went the BSC route back in 2012. With what is happening with the MVC today we would be having the exact same conversation, a western conference of like minded schools joining the Dakotas, Montanas, and Idahos together. The difference is that USD and UND would be on the inside of the BSC working to bring the XDSU's in for an eastern flank of the BSC, which we could then make the case to spin it off on its own. Same destination, just different routes to get there. Which route would be the most efficient is the question. Maybe the 4 Dakotas being unified and in the same conference as they are now is the best route. Maybe the best route would have been for the U's to be on in the inside working for it. Just don't know.

If the Great West didn't bankrupt USD then the BSC wouldn't have. We were travelling from California to New Jersey to Houston for conference games.

As a single team it could have bankrupted them. As a group of 4 Dakota schools, it would have been amazing because of the travel partners and built in rivals that are basically guaranteed sellouts.

It wouldn't take long for the above proposed conference to be on par or surpass the mountain west. Schools like Wyoming actually would fit pretty well in this group too...

WTF... Go check out some of the attendance numbers and coaches salaries in the MWC and get back to me. There are a couple dumpster fire programs, but man get a grip. Agreed on Wyoming though, the MWC is just to competitive for them in the Olympic sports.
