I think all of this talk about moving up and independent vs conference invites etc is academic and a waste of brain cycles. The first problem that needs to be overcome is the lack of eyeballs presented via television or other streaming services for athletic events. ND population is about 700k or so right? Western MN also adds some eyeballs of course but lets say that gets the available potential fan base up to 1M of so. Don’t believe that is going to cut it. Probably need 3x or so. Forget about paying for scholarships and indoor practice facilities, how you going to enlist those additional 2M potential pairs of eyeballs?

We can just figure it out as we go.

I mean, who wouldn't want to be a part of a division in which you'll never ever be the best again?

    Sounds so exciting.

I'm no fan of moving up. How does Wyoming do it? Smaller population. Much less interest locally and nationally. Those cowboys are more interested in rodeo than football. There's more to it than money. Geography plays a role as well.

Good question. One possibility and relative to ND: 75% of ND population but 50% number of D1 institutions. I also keep coming back to Nebraska for a comparison. Here again relative to ND: 250% of ND population but only 50% more D1 institutions.

Could it be that the main problem is that UND needs to be merged in to NDSU? Flame away all you want but please don't throw anything...

Only one school with political and financial support. Even with that they are doomed to be irrelevant to the FBS.

Excellent points but who's watching their games? If a lot if this is eyeballs on TVs Wyoming brings nothing. The one school thing is a big mesh as far as Wyoming is concerned.
