take Coastal Carolina a school of 10k in a city of 25k and couldn't ever compete with NDSU at fcs level - they moved up and beat a power 5 team this year. has anyone seen that they regret the move or miss the FCS playoffs?

If they had little chance to win at the FCS level, what did they have to lose by moving up? Their fanbase is small and winning isn't a tradition. However, that field.........

the fatigue is pretty evident on the forums- go look at the thread for the upcoming game... how much analysis of the game is there? pretty much none. 50 percent off pregame posts for our big rival Youngstown were how to work espn+ - I remember 6 years ago we would actually rip them on their own boards and one or two of their crazies would actually troll ours thinking they might actually win and have tons of talk about their players and strategy etc...

In 6 years most people grow up some what.

I agree with most of what El chapo is saying- we love the bison and they still have great fan support but maybe not this year but pretty soon we just need to move up regardless.. even if just independents and explain to everyone its an adventure and we will figure it out as we go.. cause at say 10 out of 11 titles we have done everything we can at the FCS level.. the regular season has maybe one game that's competitive and no SDSU isn't competition... 2-12 this decade lost half of them by 20 points... the first 2 rounds of playoffs we win by 40 per and are basically exhibitions.. If they win out this year we will have lost basically 1... yes 1 game that really mattered in a decade and that was the JMU semi final.

I have a feeling if we go and like JMU and another big school go as well. the MT and SD schools will go with us.. they wont want to play in a worthless Non bison FCS and for sure don't want to be seen as second tier to a ND School... if we take them and UND maybe EWU and Northern Iowa that is a pretty competitive G5 conference... then see if they split or add playoffs.. until then our championship each year is winning that conference and see how high we can get ranked and maybe beat a couple of the big boys once in a while.... just think 10 years ago if you said NDSU will win 5 titles in a row and have a #2 draft pick- people in any Fargo bar would have laughed you out of the place.. so who knows what the future holds for us...

I don't think there are (m)any "never fbs" people on here. Just a lot of cautious people who don't want to jump just for the sake of jumping.

Moving up as an independent would be extremely difficult especially financially. You would have all of the expense of additional scholarships and travel costs, but you wouldn't have any conference money coming in.

As far as I understand it, the NCAA will not just let you create a new conference, even if you can find enough teams willing to join one. So that means that even if the mvfc moved up on unison, they would not be considered a conference. Someone correct me if I'm wrong please.

Tldr: very few people are opposed to making the move, but it's not as simple as it seems and will take quite a bit of planning and sustained fundraising to make it feasible.
