Exactly - the catch was fairly routine (for him) but the pass is what made the play.

Remember it is the play of the week, not the catch of the week. It could be argued that Stick's identification of the defense and change/audible to the correct play to take advantage of that defense was just as pretty as the subsequent pass, catch and score. Excellent execution by an entire offense and not just an extraordinary effort by one individual.

That's actually a good point.

However, one could argue that a play could be made by one person. Hence, the great catch was a great play because of that SDSU player.
