NDSU just needs to weather the storm of this last year. Hopefully the program uses the next year to do some major homework on young assistants across the D1 landscape and get someone hired that can get NDSU back near the top. Some of these programs in the Summit as well as UND coming in are really going to continue to separate themselves in the next couple years.

Best thing she could do is resign or find another job so we can move on. A lame duck coach is a benefit to no one.

Can't imagine there will be any news on the next coach until the season is close to being done. Next coach is hopefully a young assistant somewhere getting ready for the fall season. Will be curious to see how they fill the assistant vacancy knowing it will only be a year.

Could that young assistant be part of this years staff to be able to get to know the players/recruits better? I know that would not be ideal but what is there to lose?

You mean is that young assistant already on staff? I don't think so no. The next head coach won't be a part of this team at all unless something happens where the current head coach moves on before the season. I can't imagine any scenario where they would hire someone to come in and be an assistant for a year and then take over. That might cause terrible dissension between them and the current head coach.

The program needs a new direction that doesn't have any current ties to the team. The current situation is really not a good one and is basically throwing a year away, but the positive is there is no excuse for the school to not do their research in what direction they want the program to go and have a good quality pool of candidates. I would really be disappointed if they didn't have a good quality candidate in mind and moved quick to hire immediately after their season was over.

Once a Bison, Always a Bison. Good luck to her at SIU, it's unfortunate that she didn't have more success here.
