I agree, Bresciani has done an incredible job. I think the local media just has always been obsessed with all things NDSU and since he is the head of it, he is someone people are fascinated with it. Unfortunately, they also have sold newspapers off the back of NDSU/Bresciani and before him, Chapman. Remember he has been here over 6-1/2 years and if he gets this job, it will probably be along the lines of closer to 7 years. He started in June of 2010. I think the average tenure of a university president is along that time frame. My gut feeling is he will not get this job, however. Not sure why, just my feeling. Something will come up down the road, however. I find it absolutely disingenous that the SBoHE would think he would want to retire here, especially after the way they and the media treated him. I admire him for toughing it out as long as he did. We have benefitted imensely from his time here.

The fact they asked him at the public forum about the e mails is a concern. Although that could be buffered by the state of nd's reputation.

Mike Jacobs - no fan of NDSU and an und lacky writes that NDSU is the flagship school in the state.

The way I read it is the NDSU flagship comment is from Bresciani's packet submitted to Ohio University, not from Jacobs.
The only reason some people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.

Yep. And that apparently is part of what proves he's egotistical. How dare he use that word. That's UNDs word.

Worded kind of funny if Mr. B is talking about himself and NDSU, but you might be right.

Why does the state of North Dakota and a lot of its citizens don't not like successful people. It seems like we want to find faults with them no matter how small the fault is.

^^^ This! ^^^ The prevailing opinion seems to be status quo, don't make waves, don't be too innovative.

Mike Jacobs is a jabroni. He claims a "key difference" in renewing Bresciani's contract being the switch from a UND student member to an NDSU student member. I'm not really sure how that was a key difference when the vote ultimately ended up with a lone dissenter on renewing.

Here is a quote from an article from FCC's Archie Ingersoll

The vote on Bresciani's contract was 7-1. Brett Johnson, a University of North Dakota student, was the only board member to vote against delaying the decision on the NDSU president's contract, which expires in June 2017.

I'm sure Brett Johnson just wanted a vote in the matter and pushing back the decision until November took that away from him. But who's to say he would have voted against renewing.

This is a perfect example of why the Forum sucks. The Duluth News Tribune (DNT, also FCC) is an excellent paper - it is what the Forum should be. Why? Because the DNT doesn’t try to influence sate politics by publishing dribble like this.

Let me translate this “editorial” for everyone. MJ - “I’m mad at DB because despite lopsided state subsidies to my preferred university, UND is still getting it’s ass kicked by NDSU, and we need to cling to an antiquated overly socialist model of Higher Ed in order to have any prayer of ever turning this around.”
