Scrooge-"Are there no prisons?". "Plenty of prisons..."
Scrooge-"And the Union workhouses." . "Are they still in operation?". "Both very busy, sir..."

"Many can't go there; and many would rather die."
Scrooge- "If they would rather die," "they had better do it, and decrease the surplus population."

You might be right about the recklessness. I even suspect you're right. But I still don't buy that it was a certainty that Chapman was going to drive the university off a financial cliff.

I'm watching The Grand Tour, so here comes a car analogy.

Guy #1 is driving a car he knows well. He knows it's handling characteristics and he knows the road he's on. Because of that, he knows how close he can get to the edge before he has to crank the wheel over and pop the brakes. At a particular moment, he knows that he's getting close, but he's still got a little play left to go.

Guy #2 is blindfolded in a car he's unfamiliar with; on a road he's never been on before. The car is going 80mph in the direction of a cliff edge when the blindfold is pulled away. Of course the very first thing this guy is going to do is crank the wheel and slam on the brakes. Maybe that's the absolutely necessary course of action, or maybe it's a bit of an overreaction.

Maybe Hanson did the only thing he could, but I suspect he overreacted just a little bit. He didn't have the years of experience with the university that Chapman had, so he didn't have the luxury of making a calm, introspective plan. So hack and slash was the order of the day. I don't fault him terribly bad for the decisions he made, but I'm also not ready to automatically and completely condemn Chapman.

Maybe I'm 100% wrong. I don't have any inside information, so this is just all outsider speculation.

It's actually out right now. I just finished the first episode. Lot of good and great, little bit of suck. You'll have to make your own decision on the Stig replacement. I think he's horrible; YMMV.

The Nascar guy isn't going to be the same every week is it? It sounded like a new driver every episode based on country they are filming in isn't it?

Nope. It has to be the same guy or else the lap times wouldn't be consistent from car to car. Amazon required an American to be the test driver, and that's who they came up with. I guess it's possible that other countries will appreciate the stereotype he's going for, but it really fell flat for me. I thought the cast continually referring to anything The American didn't like as communist was funny, but the driver doesn't have the personality to make it work(IMO). The Ebola Drome isn't as funny as they think either. I miss the old airfield.

I got a little chuckle out of the way they did the celebrity guests, but that was one of the weaker segments as well. The "fight" scene with the audience was poor, but I think that was due to the execution; the concept was funny, they just didn't pull it off.

But everything else was great. And the stuff above only accounts for less than 10% of the show, so we're talking 90+% of the show being as good or better than the old Top Gear. It really feels like an episode of Top Gear with slightly better production values. Maybe a bit too much American influence overall.

I could understand Jeremy starting out in a blue Galpin Rocket Mustang since there was a Top Gear that featured Jeremy racing a blue Mustang to Rome versus the other two taking high-speed rail. But when James and Richard also showed up in Mustangs(red and white), it felt like the show was betraying its roots just a bit. Maybe Jeremy in the Mustang, Richard in a Vette or Viper(he likes American sports cars), and James in an Aston Martin or Jag or something. But not three Mustangs. Anyway, that's just a quibble; loved the whole show overall.

edit: Oops, thought I was in the TV Shows thread. Won't thread drift this anymore.

Pres. B is a finalist for the president position at Ohio university. It would be great for him but I really hope he can stay at NDSU. He has been great for NDSU in his 6 + years here.

It would be great if the culture created by the SBOHE didn't suck so bad he has to feel like he has to look elsewhere

This 100000000000000000000% The SBOHE and many in the legislature don't want strong leaders they want followers who march to the beat of their drum. People like Brescani that are coveted elsewhere in this ass backwards state try to get rid of them or at least those who are threatened by strong individuals who are strong and actually have an opinion an stand up for themselves.

Ohio University reported total enrollment last fall of 40,025 and is rated as a research university with high activity by Carnegie, and was in the top 3 percent of higher education institutions globally as rated by the Center for World University Rankings, according to the university’s website.
I thought Bresciani isn't a strong leader? Why on earth would he be a top candidate for an university regarded that highly? SMH! The SBoHE and Forum Communications are fucking morons. I don't know if DB was happy here before all of this but the whole witch hunt of 2016 certainly got him to keep his eyes open for a new opportunity. He's been a great president while he has been here, and selfishly, I hope he doesn't get the OU job because I want him to stay here and continue to do great things for NDSU.
