One-in-four chance, give or take. One of the candidates is female/internal, which could hurt/help DB depending on what they want. If not this time, then the next – it’s the nature of the game.

The important thing is for NDSU is to keep fighting to maintain its rightful, hard-earned status as ND's premier research university. Higher Ed in ND is a victim of its own ineptitude and the current model would make the most ardent socialist blush. It’s ridiculous, quite frankly. There are way too many 2-4 year colleges for the population. NDSU and UND aren’t going anywhere. Time to man-up and cull a few of the others.

Of course, this will be met with serious resistance. Schools like DSU represent significant ‘pork’ to the local constituents, while there are those in the state who fully realize that the current model keeps any one school from being too successful (‘tall-poppy’ syndrome) and they want to keep it so. Change is difficult. It has to be done, however, and Burgum is the guy to do it.

Bob Porterhouse is going to order four Blizzards at DQ today to celebrate! I imagine his keyboard was a bit sticky this morning when he typed out his newest blog...

Maybe we should send Ohio a link to his blog so it sways them not to hire Dr. B!

The battle of too many universities has been going on for decades. Even if Burgum wanted to change things the legislature will not allow it to happen.

Good luck to President Bresciani. Kind of hope he gets the Ohio job. He deserves better than what he got here.

Problem is, we will have trouble getting another president who has the balls to stand up to the asshats. We are completely screwed if he goes.

It's down to Burgum being able to shame them into hiring someone qualified. If he says and does the right things loud enough in advance of a search they could still attract a descent pool of candidates but that's only going to work once unless he can also put an end to the most egregious nonsense that goes on. He could win a PR battle with Carlson but structurally the governor's office is pretty weak relative to legislative leadership so he's really going to have to manage his priorities and pick his spots.

Then it is time to get new people in Bismarck. Seriously. ND does not need to be stuck in the past. A 10th grader with a basic understanding of economics could articulate both the problem and the solution.

And all you people saying we’re screwed if he leaves … this is exactly what they want you to say. Come on people. We’ve got the ball. Here it is. Try to come and take it. They won't because they can't.

Im not sure. To be a good ceo or president, you have to have some ego. Not sure anyone in fargo wouldnt want to run his own show. GF on the other hand is a different animal.

I agree, dammit. Bresciani has not even gotten the Ohio job and we have already gotten NDSU beaten and downtrodden.

If there is anything that the past few months have demonstrated, it is that the student senate, NDSU faculty and business leaders did not take Bresciani's contract not being extended LYING down. Fargo spoke and the SBoHE listened. Remember McFeely said in a column of last summer that DB had "zero" chance of getting his contract renewed and guess what happened! This is what the media wanted. MORE news! They were disappointed that it was renewed because they could have sold out some more papers and it did not happen and they "shrunk." I think everyone knows they sell papers and advertisement by all the drama, not the good news.

I have a sneaking suspicion he will not get the Ohio job, not because he doesn't deserve it, just maybe a more qualified person and well-known (to Ohio) person is in the pool. Eventually he will leave us, sad to say but playing the pity party and feeling this is a predetermined outcome is wrong, wrong wrong. When the time comes, we may very well get a qualified and excellent president. Never underestimate Fargo and NDSU staff, students and faculty and alumni. We have much more power than we give ourselves credit for. If we didn't, the rest of the state including the legislature would not be so threatened (envious) of us.
