FARGO, N.D. – The Summit League announced its individual softball award winners and all-league teams Tuesday evening, as voted on by the league's head coaches.
Logan Moreland of North Dakota State was selected as Player of the Year while teammate
Jacquelyn Sertic earned the Pitcher of the Year award. South Dakota State's Ali Herdliska was named the league's Freshman of the Year and Omaha head coach Jeanne Scarpello was voted Coach of the Year.
Moreland earns the Player of the Year honor after leading The Summit League with a .433 batting average, the eighth-highest single-season average in league history, and enters the postseason on a 23-game hitting streak. The senior shortstop also led the league with 31 stolen bases and finished the regular season in the top five in home runs (12), RBI (45), on-base percentage (.470) and slugging (.713).
Sertic is the second straight NDSU pitcher to earn Pitcher of the Year, and the Bison's fourth honoree overall. The sophomore righty was named Pitcher of the Week six times during the season, tied for third-most ever in a season. Sertic was the league's leader in ERA (1.96), wins (22) and strikeouts (180) and helped her team to their first perfect Summit League season (17-0).
