Couldn't have said it better. That Claeys situation was such a tough deal. With that said, the right thing to do would have been when USD did in a similar situation for BBall.....you hire Claeys as interim for the year with no guarantees, then do a solid search with him as a candidate. Yes, you risk recruiting/assistant coaches leaving, but a bad hire can set your program back 5-10 years. All I can conclude it someone really, really liked him.
