In the short term no scholarships are dropped. They will honor any scholarship to these student athletes if they stay in school. Savings right away will be travel and coaches. Women are not effected.

Well, crap. Before they cut baseball, UND offered real value to the Summit. Getting them into the league now is going to be a tough sell.

    Bah.

They need the additional men's scholarships for their move up to the FBS without having to add a women's sport.

    That is what SiouxVolley thinks.

This looks like it's paving the way for FBS, in getting rid of men's slots.

Getting them for baseball would've been nice but they do provide value for other Summit sports.

Looks like Fighting Hawks LHP starter Muckenhirn will have options, transfer for next season to another school as a senior, or......

Lefthander Zach Muckenhirn (2-4, 3.14) will likely be drafted in June, becoming the 14th player in program history to be selected.
According to a press release, the athletic department will save $2.4 million next school year as a result of the cuts.

For Tennis and Swimming maybe. Sure, they're an easy drive for the Dakota schools and we'd be one step closer to getting the old NCC band back together, but are Denver, ORU, Western Illinois, or the Indiana schools going to get excited about that? On top of that, it's another fish in our recruiting pond, one in which UND is almost a non-factor right now.

Baseball was their major selling point. Heck, I was certainly more interested in the prospect of them joining the Summit before this latest news.
