That's the thing about the TV market numbers. Based on the relative level of interest for the university's athletic programs in those areas, certain market numbers could be over valued and others under valued. Never going to completely make up for Fargo's small market, but comparing TV market sizes alone probably gives a distorted view.

Also some markets are more saturated with multiple athletic programs and professional teams competing for the same viewership. Once again, not going to make up for Fargo's small market but it gives the divide a little more perspective.

My 2 cents regarding the BIG taking Rutgers. Rutgers is a major research institution that fits the profile of a BIG school, that right there was probably enough to get them in. From an athletics standpoint, Rutgers is considered the birthplace of college football, so you can check off the history box of the application. Beyond that, for football, New Jersey provides some fertile recruiting grounds, so the BIG schools get access to new recruiting markets. The final piece when you look at Rutgers athletic department is that you have to look at Rutgers as an expansion franchise. Yes, right now they are not top priority in the NYC market, but inject them with some BIG TV money, increase their athletic budgets and facilities, and what kind of potential do they have? I think Rutgers has a lot of potential and could grow enough to capture the NYC market. The BIG made an investment in Rutgers looking at them for not what they are right now but what they can be.

That's a good point. An "over valued" TV market is probably just seen as growth potential. Whether or not that growth actually happens is the gamble.

It doesn't matter whether the "growth" happens or not, in fact it is just gravy if it does. By adding the #1 and #7 TV markets (Baltimore/DC varies depending on how they are combined), they are able to get the cable companies in those markets to add them to their lineup to the tune of $1/month/subscriber. On top of that, because of the additional subscribers they are able to show advertisers, they can now charge even more for their advertising spots. It was convenient the B1G was able to check some boxes to show why Rutgers and Maryland fit into the conference model, but the TV revenue was the driver behind them being added.

At least one New Yorker had to care about Rutgers after talking too much, Don Imus.

Just like Chicago-Northwestern unless youre an inspiring journalist, but NW athletics isn't worth a damn in anything.

My bad, they had a pretty good year. Just can't over the fact that one good year, ending in a blow out loss to Tennessee, and never making it to the big dance means they're nothing more than a journalists dream school

NDSU for TV has a market at 115 and moving up, expected to be 90 in 5 years with population growth.

Also, NDSU has a bigger share in the actual state/western minnesota than over 75% of FBS teams, that is a fact
NDSU TO FBS. HAVEN'T WE WON ENOUGH?

Yep. Correct as usual. dont forget that the projected 75% will move into the 90s by 2027
