I have the honor to be Your Obedient Servant - B.Aud
We all live in stories... It seems to me that a definition of any living vibrant society is that you constantly question those stories... The argument itself is freedom. It's not that you come to a conclusion about it. Through that argument you change your mind sometimes... That's how societies grow. When you can't retell for yourself the stories of your life then you live in a prison... Somebody else controls the story. - S. Rushdie
Go back thru the 50 super bowl champions and you will see about a fifty split for the winners between the winner having a better offense or defense. One side of the football doesn't win squat. U at least need two of the three, either special teams or offense to win a title.
If it flies it dies.
Long for the days of freezing in the south stands of Dacotah Field.
Where's Saxy Southerner or Fast Eddy? Seems like even they would see the comparison.

I thought both teams played defensively really well. The Broncos made a couple more plays when it mattered. I thought for a while there we were going to see a kicker become the Super Bowl MVP. Manning didn't look especially Manning like, even old Manning like. The Broncos defense bailed the offense out the entire game. Once they got a two score lead, it was all about keeping the clock moving, punting, and holding. I thought the only absolutely terrible play (other than the personal fouls) was when Newton had a chance to go after his fumble and it looked like he didn't. There were some other bad plays, but that one stuck out as being downright the worst play at the worst time. Maybe he didn't see it or maybe he was in an awkward position, but that did end up being the ball game. Maybe he just screwed up. Strange play.
I thought the game had the feel of a Bison game only in that the Broncos were perfectly fine with it being an ugly game. They didn't care how they won and didn't care how it looked. It was all about what the score would be at the end. I think you see that among strong, confidant defensive teams. It is ok for a game to get ugly because it makes the other team uncomfortable and there is no rhythm. Carolina never got into any groove and while it was mentioned they aren't an offense based on getting into a rhythm, it doesn't help when is no there fluidity to the game. The Broncos were all about 3 plays, 6 yards, and punt and flip the field. They were willing to work three possessions for a 20 yard advantage to finally get three points out of it. We have seen the Bison do that to opponents. The Towson game was not a pretty football game and a great example of playing an ugly game to keep the opponent completely out of it.
Three big plays in the game---the sack and fumble for a TD, 61 yard punt return setting up a field goal and the last Cam fumble--Total of 18 points.
The only reason some people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.

Right on! Media, ESPN analysts, talk radio were all talking how in the world is Denver going to stop the THE New QB of the future and face on the NFL Cam Newtown. EXCUSE ME, Broncos played the BEST Defense game in their entire storied decades in the NFL in the AFC Title game! They were scary good, yet Tom Brady and company don't give up or ever quit! It is quite evident that big offensive teams will never win the big ones unless you have a even better DEFENSE to follow. Thus 5 Time Thundering Herd! You can draw clear conclussions at any level of football. Defenses win Championships.
However Carolina didn't give Manning much to look at either so really it comes down to smart QB, and great coaching adjustments and Carolina got schooled on Sunday.
Also tired of the GENERATION ISSUE ABOUT CAM NEWTOWN.! Most of his team could not handle the pressure, got mad, some inexcusable penalties, they got rooked on a couple too, but If you want to be the showman then you better be prepared to take it like a Man when you lose and Newton is no leader, but a baby and whiner!
It just shows how lucky we are to have the BEST College football program in the nation right in our back yard! Great Coaches, great players, understanding what it takes to be Champions!
Be Herd, stampede is starting in 7 months to Hawkeyeville everyone! THE GAME of the Year for preseason, get your rest everyone! Its top 10 FBS football time in September!
Bis Bison 49!
Do a little research and you'll find the same thing. Can't remember if it was here on Bisonville or over on AGS, but someone posted a link to a great article debunking the whole idea of "defense wins championships." With hard data. Pretty interesting read.
No doubt that a great defense can put you in position to win some tight games against elite competition, but so can a great offense and great special teams.
