Looks like a pretty shitty effort overall. Could be a long year for team results. They didn't seem to have any energy but maybe its because of all the matches last week and a noon start.

I'm mainly dissapointed with Ream and McNutt, the rest of the guys looked good or performed about as expected.

That was a rough one today, but Virginia is a pretty solid team.

125- Rodriguez did enough to get bonus points, but the concerning thing for me was his performance on bottom. That has been a trouble spot for him and he got rode pretty well again. I hope Kish puts him down when its his choice in every open tournament and early season dual. He looked ok on his feet and was very good on top.
133- O'Brien did some things well, he just went up against a superior wrestler. The effort was encouraging, and I'm hopeful he'll be alright this year.
141- Friedman did a lot of little things wrong and they added up. There are some things to build on, but at this level, if you don't execute the little things, you're not going to be successful. This was a match he could have won, but instead it got kind of ugly.
149- Bengston got a win over a quality opponent. His stamina also looked much improved up a weight. On the down side, the match shouldn't have gone to OT and the offense was missing for most of the match. There is no excuse for both not getting that takedown when he was behind miller on their feet to put the match away and for giving a takedown up out of that same scenario. The aggression out of the front head was missing too, which has been his bread and butter. Despite all of that, he found a way to win against a quality opponent.
157- Ream didn't look like himself. I still have faith he'll be in the mix to AA at 149 by the end of the year. Also, this is a great example of why you don't see guys bumping up weights in duals. Atkinson isn't a big 157, but he got to weigh in there and Clay weighed in at 149. I'd still like to see Bengston at 141, Ream at 149, and Nehring at 157.
165- This was very ugly. Peppleman was able to do whatever he wanted.
174- This was very ugly too.
184- Zillmer looked solid. Would've liked to see some a little more aggressiveness early, but that's just splitting hairs. The stall call against Zillmer was just awful and made NO sense
197- The effort was there, but Nye was just the far superior wrestler. My only real complaint is that if you're going to try a headlock, don't half ass it, commit to it. This was my first time seeing Paxton wrestle, and I'm hoping to see some offense out of him at the Bison Open.
HWT- Highlight of the dual from the NDSU side. Tynan moved well, took some good shots (and some bad ones), and battled back from a 3rd period deficit to win in OT. He's not the biggest or strongest guy, so he'll have to be careful about when he shoots and goes underneath some bigger HWTs. Gas tank, effort, and quickness weren't issues for him.

Overall, a very disappointing end to the dual after a pretty good start. UVA hit some tilts for 4 that completely changed some matches. Biggest area where I think NDSU needs work is on the bottom. Could throw better movement on their feet to get some better shot angles, but that wasn't too bad.

I know it isn't relating to this dual, but a bunch of guys went to the Grand View Open, and some did very well. Most notably, Fogarty won the tile at 157. Harrington took 2nd at 174, falling to a very good Jake Residori (#24 at 174 according to wrestlestats) of SIUE. Nielson took 3rd at 174, and lost to that same Residori, giving him his only close match on the day, falling 4-2. No idea if one of them will grow into a 184 next year, but if the staff doesn't think one of them will, they might as well pull one of their redshirts.
