That was never going to happen in any scenario. With the way we are opening everything early without anything near adequate preparation, the odds of any 2020 season continue to diminish. The only chance to hve in person sporting events in the fall was to go all the way with quarrantine until the virus was eliminated, as in South Korea or China. We failed that test miserably
If we are waiting until the virus is eliminated, then we will be waiting for eternity. This virus will be around forever. The flu has been around for over 100 years, we have a vaccine, and tens of thousands of people still die. We need to get back to normal and live our lives knowing that their is always inherent risk. This includes going to work, going to school, going to businesses, and yes going to sporting events.

No fans is a huge advantage for the Bison. It’ll be just like playing another game at Western or Indy State. Been simulating this situation for years.

But let's be honest, do you really think there will be a world where 60,000 people are packing into stadiums a few months from now?

Hope we can at least still play it without spectators, as depressing as that would be. I would love to see the world's greatest football team come to Eugene.
I think if it means pushing the start back to late October to get fans in vs starting in late august, I say you delay it.

Gives hundreds of thousands(actually millions) 8 or so extra weeks to either recover, get infected/defeat it , get safety protocol down etc.

It’d be a shot in the arm for everybody if they played football with fans in the stands this year. Obviously the top issue here is keeping those highest at risk away for a year. May have to sit this year out but a small price for the billions and Athletic departments at risk here

And when they do this it gives anyone in charge of making possible preparations the excuse to do nothing. Just give up. Don't even try. Just run everything down in this country in the name of the impossible goal of keeping everyone safe. Typical politicians, want people to think they are looking out for you when it is actually a big power grab for them.

you don't follow news very closely do you?

Multiple other countries have successfully eliminated coronavirus from their countries, and was have successfully produced vaccines for several types of coronaviruses. Coronavirus is not the same thing as the flu.

We could crush this like other countries have done until there is a vaccine (likely in late fall to early winter), instead we're a failed state

First off, this is America. We have a different culture.

Second, most folks who shut it down had to deal with SARS a decade ago and had protocols and recent memories.
Many thousands are in want of common necessaries; hundreds of thousands are in want of common comforts, sir."
Scrooge-"Are there no prisons?". "Plenty of prisons..."
Scrooge-"And the Union workhouses." . "Are they still in operation?". "Both very busy, sir..."
"Those who are badly off must go there."
"Many can't go there; and many would rather die."
Scrooge- "If they would rather die," "they had better do it, and decrease the surplus population."

Pull your head out of your ass. There will be no mass gatherings anywhere without an effective antiviral and/or mass immunity.

No country has eliminated the virus. No country has a vaccine proven safe and reliable. If everything goes perfect with the Oxford human trial we’ll could have some doses for front line workers in 6 months. Even in the best case there will be no fan attendance at games.
