    Warren Moon's college numbers:

Year Comp Att Comp % Yards TD INT
    1975 48 112 39.0 587 2 2
    1976 81 175 46.3 1,106 6 8
    1977 125 223 56.3 1,772 12 9

I don't know how anybody can look at those numbers and say the only reason the NFL didn't draft him was because of the color of his skin. I don't doubt it may have played some part, but I think it's ridiculously presumptuous to look at his later success and assume things would have turned out the same or even better if he was drafted. He may have never seen the field. He was rated the 10th best QB of that class at the time, hardly the can't miss prospect some people make him out to have been.

He played on a horrible and I mean horrible Washington Team. He literally carried that team on his back and won the Rose Bowl over a heavily favored Michigan team. He was the PAC 8 player of the year winner as a senior. He should have been drafted no questions about it.

Also, pre-West Coast offensive revolution. There was no such thing as a possession passing game. Those numbers (especially comp% and Ints) were put up in a completely different context.

Explains how and why Phil Simms was drafted so high despite having terrible college passing numbers. Here's a little tidbit about Simms' college days from Wikipedia:

Simms chose to attend Morehead State University in nearby Morehead, Kentucky, and joined Tau Kappa Epsilon there. The team featured a ball control offense, and Simms' numbers at Morehead State were unspectacular—in his senior season he completed 92 of 173 passes for a 53.2% completion percentage and had six touchdown passes, 11 interceptions, and 1,229 yards. The team also finished with a 2–6–1 record in his senior season and failed to make a bowl game during Simms' four years. Simms finished his career at Morehead State with 409 completions in 835 attempts for a 48.9% completion percentage. He also totalled 32 touchdowns, 45 interceptions, and a school-record 5,545 yards.

Before the 1979 NFL Draft, Bill Walsh, who was the new coach of the San Francisco 49ers, flew to Morehead State with assistant coach Sam Wyche to work out Simms.[3] Walsh was so impressed with Simms that he planned to draft him in the third round, preferring him over another young quarterback they scouted and ultimately drafted, Joe Montana.[4] But the New York Giants decided to make Simms their first round pick to the surprise of many.

Why are we comparing Brock Jensen to Canadian and NFL Hall of Famer Warren Moon? Jensen is the man and is a clutch quarterback but he is no Warren Moon but neither are 99% of the quarterbacks in the NFL. If Wentz has half the career that Moon did he would be considered a success and will have cashed in on a couple mega contracts.

I'm a pretty big homer, but Brock just isn't an NFL level QB. Love the guy and I'm damn happy he became a Bison, but his ceiling is likely CFL starter. There's no shame in that.

I'm not sure anyone ever said Jensen was an NFL caliber QB or that he would be a star. I think someone made a joke about Jensen getting an NFL Tryout, which is a far cry from what this discussion has become.

Anyways, onto another topic, I'm kind of surprised that bonnet is still on the roster. I've heard nothing about him. Hopefully, he found a niche as a special teams guy and makes the coach's decision difficult.

Why was Carson Wentz a first round pick and Cardele Jones a 5th or a 6th round pick? Did it have to do with skin color or how one projected at the NFL? Did Tom Brady slide because of his skin color or his projection?

While I don't think Wentz and Jones are great examples, race is still an issue when discussing the QB position. The first attribute talked about with white QBs is whether they have the physical tools. With black QBs it is whether they are smart enough. We haven't progressed that far.

Brady slipped because people weren't convinced a Michigan product would yield more than his predecessors. There are a lot of players who would be drafted differently if teams could go back and do it over.

Just like 90% of other black college QBs, Moon was asked to change positions. That didn't help his draft stock either.
