I was in the Military and school through my 20 entering my 30s, I am sure their run in the NFL has put them in a great position to have a good life.

Did that change? I thought it was more. I know 4 years moved you to the vested vet group.

Update according to team websites today:

Marcus Williams - Jets (3rd on CB depth)
    Joe Mays - unsigned
Kyle Emanuel - Chargers (2nd OLB on depth)
Billy Turner - Dolphins (starter at RG)
    Craig Dahl - unsigned
Ramon Humber - Saints (no depth chart shown)
John Crockett - Packers (practice squad)
The white jerseys are the best. Don't even bother to argue.

Dahl and Mays have earned a combined 16 million over their NFL careers and qualify for much more than the NFL pension. Anything they make from this point on is gravy.

Unless they go on these ridiculous spending sprees like all these broke NFL /NBA players do they will be more than ok

NFL Pension Plan: $201,453 annually at age 65 or $76,920 annually at age 55.

5 years free health insurance and automatically can join the NFL insurance group after 5 years

Annuity Plan: $525,000 (this amount does not include earned interest that will accrue) This benefit is for players that have at least 4 credited seasons. The amounts are $65,000 annually for each of the years 2011-2013. $80,000 for each of the years 2014-2017, and $95,000 for each year from 2018-2020. For the purposes of this example, a rookie in 2011 would begin receiving the owner contribution to his Annuity from 2015 to 2020. If a player who was already vested in 2010, played until 2020 they would have $800,000 in their Annuity.

Severance Pay Plan: $200,000 Based on the number of credited seasons a player has earned. For this hypothetical 10 year player, he would receive $15,000 for the 2011 season, $17,500 for each season 2012-2013, $20,000 for each season 2014-2016 and $22,500 for each of the seasons 2017-2020.

Gene Upshaw NFL Player Health Reimbursement Account: $350,000 (can be used to pay for all health and medical related costs – including the cost of annual premiums for staying on the NFL’s group insurance policy. A player must have three credited seasons to be eligible for this benefit.

12k a year for group licensing

    60k in tuition reimbursement

Heck you put a million bucks in even a low interest savings account and you'll earn like 40k a year just in interest. Now try it with 3 million
    .

    17X National Champions: 65, 68, 69, 83, 85, 86, 88, 90, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 17, 18, 19, 21

Because Dahl and Mays are vested vets watch for them to sign if they get a chance after week 1. When a team signs a "vested" veteran after Week 1, the organization can sign that player for the league minimum with little risk. If the player is only good enough to last a few weeks or is just signed to fill-in for an injury, the team can drop them and their salary. It's essentially a way to beat the system, while still allowing older players to catch a last paycheck or opportunity.

Craig Dahl is better than Robert Blanton for the Vikings.
