We've had this discussion about a million times. I'm almost sure the chairs are still the originals and if memory serves, they were procured second hand.

I heard they come from the Minneapolis Auditorium, former home of the Lakers. I've also heard Met Center, but that still had its seats in 1993 and was torn down in 1994. Could just be urban legend.

If my memory serves they DO look a lot like the Met Center seats though, which were reupholstered in burgundy at some point.

In any case I'm pretty sure they're like 50 years old or more and it would be easily justifiable to replace them. The blue seats are in good shape still though.

Wow, I wonder how old they are then. They don't look like the originals from the '20s, but I can't imagine they put new seats in after the Lakers left in '59 either. Perhaps in a last-ditch attempt to compete with the Met Center which was built in the late '60s.

Point is- I was in 3rd grade and we sat on the red chairs and my entire family was making comments about how disgusting those seats are haha..

I was 8 and I knew those things needed to be replaced... and that was 16 years ago
