That is the bottom line in the NFL. If you are not a starter, you better find another way to become valuable to an organization. 99.9% of the time that means special teams. Then when you get a chance to show off your skills on the field on offense or defense, you work towards a starting role and become too valuable for special teams. I want JC to succeed, but there are a lot of guys who can be the third back in a system AND contribute at a high level on special teams. Guys like Matt Asiata get a lot of crap from Vikings fans, but his value on the team is first as a blocker on special teams. That is why the Vikes keep bringing him back. His contributions in the offensive game plan can be replicated by a lot of different guys. The willingness to block on special teams is another story.

Each of the Packers’ undrafted rookie running backs, Brandon Burks and Brandon Ross, fumbled today, and it looks like John Crockett is currently the number three back by a mile.

Best part of that article is the following statement: Starks has reportedly been impressive in the early stages of training camp as well. But regardless of what the depth chart looks like, it's clear that Crockett has established himself as a quality back. You can bet that he will get significantly more touches this season.
