I would love to see Hockey at NDSU someday. We have already peaked in men's basketball and clearly don't care about it seeing as Richmond is still our coach. Assuming the Hockey community could raise the endowment cash needed to kick start the program, we should absolutely do it. With football soon moving to FBS, it would be the only program on campus capable of playing for and winning a national championship.

I will admit this is the best argument I’ve ever heard for NDSU having a hockey program.

    Hard to argue with that.

NDSU D1 hockey would be an uphill climb to find support imo. However, mens and womens bball here is not selling seats either even for games vs UND. Too much tv time but that revenue must be the attraction to the AD office. With the Force having a very successful team and UND being in the top 10 again it would be difficult to find ticket money for another team. If it did happen, then possible risk of losing the Force. Force attendance is over 4000 ave. this season so lots of fans attending plus a flohockey tv stream. 62 game season plus playoffs, thats a lot of high level hockey for this area. Need to build up NDSU club hockey to a national level and find them home ice contracts first, then it may have leverage.

I have no doubt that a lot of UND's ticket money would come to NDSU hockey but it's just not going to happen. NDSU will always be FB first and we need to get to FBS to grow it more. Need to get the BB programs elevated because they would draw if they were better, we saw it with past teams success. Once we have quality BB programs and an FBS home I wouldn't be opposed to a hockey program but that's a long ways down the road.

I think the jersey options would be pretty sweet.

Next to the MSP area, Fargo is arguably smack dab right in the middle of the best youth hockey landscape in the US eh. It would not take long at all to be successful eh.
    NCAA D1 Hockey:
    60 teams

The most popular sport in THE LAND!

"Oh Canada, our home and native..."
30 affiliated with D1 football (15 FBS and 15 FCS)
30 affiliated with D2, D3, or no football
    You're so jealous!
Let's fight for 0.6 seconds or 5 OTs!

If NDSU is going to add hockey, the impetus needs to come from the student body in the form of "we're willing to raise our student fees by x" - and I'd imagine that they'd want a sign of support from donors.

I know Michigan is pretty crazy for youth hockey. I imagine parts of New England are similar.
