With the right cash and right head coach I wouldn't count anything out. Doesn't help for us to sit and worry, I'm just thankful he's here right now

I'm not going to pretend to know him well enough as far as it pertains to how he values stability, how he values being a head coach, etc. I will say this, he makes somewhere in the ballpark (after incentives) $325K. Iowa's current DC makes $300k. Minnesota's Tracy Claeys makes $346,000 but is also the team's associate head coach. So as far as a flat-out money grab he would probably not leave for a P5 coordinator position.

For the strength of the Herd is the Bison
And the strength of the Bison is the Herd.

It's part of recruiting. You want to be able to show a potential recruit that you will be sticking around. It can be used against you by other schools if that isn't the case. "XXXXX won't be around for your senior year; he only has a 3-year contract."

Exactly. Wasn't Mussman resigned before his last season? Signing a long contract shows the coach you are committed to him, and shows recruits that he will be there throughout their college career. Now, it doesn't stop them from bolting for a higher paying job like Bohl did; but I agree that it keeps Klieman from being tempted by any potential lower FBS schools.

Crap, he'll soon be gone. This is the beginning of the end.

This is just our reality (almost every program's reality, actually). If they're good enough that we want to keep them, they're good enough that someone with deeper pockets is going to be interested in them as well.

If/when Klieman leaves, I'm confident that we'll reload at that position too.

It's not easy, but success breeds success, and the Herd will thunder on, regardless of who is at the helm of the football program.

If his goal is to coach at one of the perennial powers, then he might be willing to make a lateral move to get FBS experience.

It's OK to not be OK.

Not saying this wouldn't have happened anyway, but Illinois State extended Spack through 2021 a few days ago. You have to stay ahead of the competition. We are recruiting against them quite a bit now.
