    Default Alumni Association

    Anymore to this?

One of the most recent resignations came from Associate Executive Director Sherri Schmidt, who'd been with the organizations for more than 20 years.Alumni Association Board Chairman Scott Handy says seven or eight employees have resigned or retired over the past several months. He says President and CEO Doug Mayo needed to bring the groups to the Division-1 level and some of the employees may not have been able to adapt. He says he has full confidence in Mayo.

To state the obvious, we were D1 waaaay before Mayo showed up! As am alum and a donor, I'm a bit concerned about this. We need these departments to be functioning on all cylinders, period.

Who knows. Maybe he is is a dick. Or maybe he was perceived as a dick because he wants to hold them to higher standards and raise more money? Maybe the employees were lazy and/or complacent and were underperforming which led to bad morale. Maybe it's time for some fresh blood. Some people are set in their ways. Or maybe he sucks. How have the fundraising numbers looked?

I have not met Mayo nor do I know anything about him. Except that he came to NDSU from a similar position at the University of Minnesota - Mankato. I have crossed paths with Sheri a few times and have formed some very positive opinions of her. Frankly, she gets things done. And is very personable.

The charter of a leader is to motivate and to inspire. Somehow, these traits appear to be missing. Worse yet, no matter how this came to be, Mayo has a large hole to get out of.

Regardless of the reasons, having that many people quit in such a short time is not a good thing.

Could be, but its hard to run a department when no one is there. That in and of its self is enough for me to question his affectivnes
