The only reason some people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.

So policies should be made to babysit adults who can't be trusted to act responsibly? Based on your views on other issues, I'm surprised that kind of reasoning informs your view on this. Not that it's impossible for people to have varied rational for there thinking from one topic to the next, but you seem very free market libertarian in most other regards.
When you put 20000 people together they don’t behave the same way as individuals do. It’s not necessarily about paternalistic regulation of adult’s behavior. It’s a recognition of how humans behave collectively in large groups.

We all live in stories... It seems to me that a definition of any living vibrant society is that you constantly question those stories... The argument itself is freedom. It's not that you come to a conclusion about it. Through that argument you change your mind sometimes... That's how societies grow. When you can't retell for yourself the stories of your life then you live in a prison... Somebody else controls the story. - S. Rushdie
All it takes is one tragic event. Colleges all over have experienced an ETOH related death. The legal ramifications are a nightmare. This isnt about morality or political views. This is all about liability exposure. Plus how will this effect the game day experience for those that dont drink?

At football games? Not that I know of. They have died from pregame parties, Fraternity parties etc etc etc. Universities have banned ETOH from all fraternity houses and have archaic rules for a dry campus and pregame tailgate where student could be involved. NDSU doesnt live in a vacuum. So when these event happen all schools take notice and at least have policies in place to lessen liability. There was big push about 5-7 years ago from schools admins to get a handle on ETOH.
I know that the University of Iowa had the police in there back pocket to the point that the police would let the university know when any fraternity members had any contact with law enforcement. Especially when ETOH was envolved.
