I asked my dad once when I was a kid why we didn't have names on the back of our jerseys. He said the name on the front of the jersey is more important than any name you could put on the back. Personally I never thought about it again.

Teams that I can think of who choose not to use names on back of jerseys... NDSU, USC, Notre Dame.

In Baseball NY Yankees have never done this either. Name on the front is more important.
