Ever since the days of "coaches" and media not being able to figure out which Dakota school should get their votes, I've pretty much just tried to disregard the polls. They could do a lot for credibility by making votes public information, and giving people the opportunity to correct obvious mistakes, rather than enabling idiots with agendas to hide.

My bad. Thanks for the clarification.

I guess that rests on the assumption that the committee is actually good at selecting the best teams for the playoff.

*A guy by the name of Ralph Wallace owns CSN and used to own AGS. After he sold AGS to other owners, he had a spat with them and no longer includes the AGS poll in the GPI. I added it back in and corrected the formula. At least I tried to. It was a quick and dirty attempt, so I might have screwed something up.

8 in the top 20. Sounds right.

Thanks for that explanation. I knew there was some bad blood and shenanigans between Ralph and AGS, but I didn't realize that he used to own it. I thought it was always Ursus' baby.

Ralph goes out of his way to discredit AGS now. He claims that he is being objective, but to an outsider with no stake in the game, it seems pretty clear that he's not objective.

Somebody 'splain the Laz Index and the Born Rankings to me. Anybody know what they're based on? Just trying to Justify NDSU not being at No 1. Apparently they think highly of ISUr right now.

They must be rankings that don't care about SOS.

Laz Index is based on SOS which we are significantly ahead of ISUr. But they also have a power index, which they are quite a ways ahead of us, and I'm assuming has a lot to do with point differential. They have won their games by an average of 49-8.

I can't say how either of these systems work, but I am a nerd with a homemade system that also has ISUr on top. Mine is based only on score differentials and who was the home team, using data from only this season. For me, things like strength of schedule and home field advantage are outputs, not inputs. Basically, each team's rating gets adjusted until the whole system is a good match over all of the games. My system doesn't work very well though. Last year, it had Eastern Ill. as #1 most of the way through, even in the play-offs. On the other hand, it also had Florida St. as #1 most of the year.
