When you play football, you gotta like the taste of blood, And 50 percent of the time, it's your blood.
It is characteristic of the unlearned that they are forever proposing something which is old, and because it has recently come to their own attention, supposing it to be new.

First off, CBS has reported that the Big Ten is still looking at adding Washington, Oregon, Stanford, & Cal with the Big XII eyeing the Four Corners schools leaving the Beavers and Cougars alone in the PAC.
The PAC's brand will always be stronger than the Mountain West, and I'm referring to the league's namesake, not the members. The PAC has been grandfathered in as an unconditional autonomy conference wirh the other four Power Conferences. I guarantee you that Oregon State & Washington State will have a much better chance of pulling whoever they want from the Mountain West under the banner and autonomy of the PAC, than the Mountain West will have at pulling those 2 to them with the MWC as a non-AQ NY6 non-autonomy conference.
Secondly, as we learned from Marshall, Southern Miss, & ODU that unless your league has a Grant of Rights in place, which the Mountain West doesn't, then exit fees are just an arbitrary assumption written on paper that really has no legal standing especially when a state funded public school outside of Colorado (where the MWC headquarters is located) can simply hide behind their respective states' sovereign immunity laws and local hometown judges to protect the institutions financially from out-of-state entities like the Mountain West when they go to sue for exit fees.
The PAC won't be instantly gutted, and neither will the MWC.
Just because everyone fled CUSA doesn't mean everyone leaves the MWC.
And even if that happened so what? MWC can load up on MVFC and Big Sky teams and end up a helluva lot stronger than the Southland/Big South based CUSA. MVFC/Big Sky >>> Southland/Big South. And MWC >>> CUSA.
What will happen is movement, and almost certainly openings in both conferences.
These type of shifts happen about once a decade, and PAC/MWC are not immune.
Change is good and will bring opportunities. Its just a little slower to develop with these large institutions than some would like.
