If you mean 24 teams, I don't think that'll happen any time soon, if ever. For one thing, there's just not enough calendar time given the timeframe for most P5 conference championships...assuming that the NC game happens somewhat near early January.
I could see a 12 team playoff. There was just a great ESPN article a couple of weeks ago about which coaches support vs oppose an expanded playoff. Somewhat interesting to read. Harbaugh has an 11-team playoff scheme that seems to have some traction.
