Default NCAA vs the world lawsuits

    https://www.espn.com/college-sports/...ower-5-schools
The NCAA sent out a four-page memo to all 32 Division I conferences this week detailing how the organization plans to cut back on distribution to leagues in six annual payout categories in order to pay the proposed $2.7 billion in damages...

According to a source, one smaller non-power football league was told in the NCAA memo that it would be expected to pay more than $2.5 million per year to help cover the costs of the settlement. A source in that CCA22 league said that amount is approximately 25 percent of the annual NCAA revenue for the schools in the league.

"We're not named in the lawsuit," said a source in a smaller league. "We don't have a voice in any of this. We're just being told what our taxation is."

Added another source in a CCA22 league: "This is incredibly unfair and has a dramatic impact. I'm losing about 10 percent of my operating budget. Do I cut two staff members in order for money to go to Zion Williamson? Ninety percent of the money in the suit projects to go to power five football and men's basketball players. The 40-percent payment for the power conference isn't proportionate."
Here's the new normal. No other way to say it, this is catastrophic to smaller programs.
    In addition, we have:
NCAA v Alston - 9-0 SCOTUS decision that the NCAA violated anti-trust laws. Gave us NIL.
Johnson vs NCAA - ongoing case that will almost certainly result in all D1 athletes becoming employees.
Several others against schools, conferences, and NCAA. This is happening folks.

Is NCAA leadership taking a pay cut? Is the national office cutting staff?

They’ve had a century to figure this out and haven’t done it. Pigs get slaughtered.

We all live in stories... It seems to me that a definition of any living vibrant society is that you constantly question those stories... The argument itself is freedom. It's not that you come to a conclusion about it. Through that argument you change your mind sometimes... That's how societies grow. When you can't retell for yourself the stories of your life then you live in a prison... Somebody else controls the story. - S. Rushdie

When all this starting rolling I said there was a chance it was the beginning of the end of college athletics. Seems a step closer now. If it all ends, who is better off because of it?

Possibly most middle size universities who will be forced to rightsize their athletics and focus on being an educational institution.

Remember the main purpose of the NCAA is the same as the unions. The main purpose is the survival of the NCAA.

I bet the 2-A is is wondering why they spent millions on a law suit they knew they were going to lose.

The beginning of North America professional sports being operated like soccer clubs are in Europe. Ten years from now people will look back and think “what happened”?

Listened to a McFeely podcast and the smaller schools are fucked. The P5 only wants to pay 40% of the settlement which means the G5, FCS, D2 and D3 will have to pay for most of it despite the P5 having all of the money and good players who earned.

Them they want to give most of the pool to the Power 5

The NCAA will need to cut payments, like grants which will kill struggling programs and burden most teams. Boosters will need to fund the difference

At the end of the day the little guys get bent over a barrel

What's most pathetic is the smaller schools are just hearing about it now and the deadline is coming up
