In my HS days we saw them almost daily flying training missions in Central ND. We farmed in the corridor they used. Not sure if Minot or GFAFB planes then.
Air Force said their hard deck was 500 feet but many claimed they were flying lower. They were definitely low but who can say? Huge planes like this are giant even at 1,000 ft.
They were practicing attacking Soviet Union. Vietnam proved they couldn't survive at altitude in a high threat environment like existed in Russia.
Awesome planes and still have a useful place in both tactical and strategic roles.
