We are staying in Des Moines which is about 35 miles away. It seemed like the rooms were a little less expensive. Thankfully, my wife works for a hotel so we got a nice discount.

I understand they are flaring most of it as there's no cost-effective means available to capture it and transport it to other locations. They did try to hide a chunk of it in the hills of SC but somehow it broke containment..
