If he was in fact told those things and he thought he lived up to them and was getting a scholarship, then there was a lack of communication between him and the coaching staff. There seems to be some fault all around here, but the young man should learn not to count on anything until you have it in your hands. If he was led to believe he was in line for a scholarship, there is certainly failure among the coaches for not being very clear about what their objective was with him. Yes he is an adult, but part of the learning process should be making decisions with all the information in front of him. It sounds like both parties in this were not very clear with each other.

Hopefully they all learn from this. This young man certainly learned some valuable lessons. Whether he appreciates them right now or not is another story. New recruits will hopefully learn about this story and make sure they have the vision of the coaching staff very clearly in front of them when they make decisions. Hopefully the coaching staff realizes the importance of laying out their objectives to each student/athlete and giving them attainable goals or letting them loose. If I am being told I accomplish A,B, and C and the return by meeting those goals are D,E, and F there better be a conversation well before 20 other things having to fall in place fall apart because the rug got pulled out. That is why CB is paid the big bucks, to make sure these individual cases don't fall between the cracks.
Or they changed their mind on giving him a scholly or they werent truthful just to keep him around. If its not written down it never happened. This isnt uncommon.

Probably told him he needed to have a whale of a season and left it there.

Yes to all of the above.

There is a business side to all of this and it should be shared with the student/athlete along the way. That is the part about sports I don't like. It isn't just college athletics and scholarships, it is at a lot of different levels. It is also in life. Good leaders will sit down with subordinates and fully explain to them what objectives and goals need to be met to achieve the next step. Whether it be a scholarship, getting a promotion, or keeping a job; clear, attainable objectives should be laid out with a plan on how to meet them. In good organizations with good leadership, you rarely hear about situations where someone feels they have been blindsided with a decision about their personal growth. If I was a parent and CB was sitting in front of me and my son talking about Wyoming football, this situation would certainly be part of the conversation. What process is in place where student/athletes know where they stand in the program and how do you communicate with them when they are not meeting the goals and objectives you have set forth? Then, if the effort was there by everyone and things are still not working out, how is Johnny going to be taken care of? I have to think if a young man is not getting a scholarship at the point this student/athlete expected it, there should be some questions about his fit in the program then.

[QUOTE=td577;1068770]Where do they go? I don't think there is a great demand for coaches from a one win program. No matter their track record before, that is the horse they are tied to now. They need to win with Bohl to be attractive.

What? There are any number of small high schools that would be interested in a crappy college coach.

Wyoming loses strength coach to Central Florida

Duval spent two years at Wyoming, working primarily with the football program. Prior to UW, he held the same position at Buffalo. He also had stints at Creighton and Nebraska in different strength coaching roles, and worked for a private business from 2002-07.

I can confirm that former Wyoming wide receivers coach Kenni Burns is heading to Western Michigan to become its running backs coach.

Duval had to make more than 85K at Wyoming last year. He was making that when he was at Buffalo.

Those WYO fans are funny. They just want to buy everything. I'm surprised they aren't trying to buy the Fargodome. Hopefully next year they can get things rolling over there.

The news had been mixed, if not better, over the weekend:

Wyoming produced a net gain of three verbal commitments over the weekend.

In addition to Jackson (WY) standout Theo Dawson’s commitment Sunday, Arizona prep wide receiver John Okwoli, California prep defensive tackle Toa Iafeta and California prep running back Mike Green pledged to the Pokes.

However, Oklahoma prep defensive tackle Shemarr Robinson decommitted, flipping from Wyoming to Tulsa.

The result is a full 2016 recruiting class of 25 players. UW could still sign more players to its 2016 class, depending on transfers and other circumstances.
