It would be stupid to fire Claeys. If you see where the Gophers are now, it's pretty clear the Kill/Claeys system has made the Gophers pretty darn good. Of course the Gophers are stupid so they will fire him because you have to stunt actual progress and set the team back another 4 years.

Let's be honest, though. Did he leave due to the coming sanctions or due to getting a job a Notre Dame. That is a HUGE promotion. Yes, I realize this is not mutually exclusive, either.

Yeah, tough to turn down one of the top 5 jobs in college football when you coach at Minnesota.

I don't think Claeys is going to take that program any further, they are back in Masonland. Which is fine but I can't blame some of their fans if they want more.
NDSU to the FBS always. In all ways.

Really? They're still way behind the 2nd tier Big 10 teams IMO.

Truthfully, he was only responsible for two of the 17 sanctions Minnesota faced after he left. However, when he signed up to be Minnesota's coach, he had a clause in his contract that allowed him to leave if the Notre Dame job became available. He wasn't planning to be in Minnesota very long to begin with. I believe his best contribution to the Goofers was that he recruited Rickey Foggie. That guys was fun to watch.

That might be the ceiling for the Goofs when it comes to football. They lack the culture and tradition to be great in the Big 10. Once in awhile, maybe they'll be good enough to be in the Top-25.

I hear there's a great TE's coach at Florida State. I real go getter and excellent recruiter. They should look at hiring him, I bet he could take Gopher Nation to the promise land.
    Don't matter. FIVE-PEAT!

If he says Rose Bowl a couple times they'll be all on board.
