I wouldn't think he would go G5 to be a coordinator, but it would be silly for him not to listen to a P5 offer as a DC. I am not saying jump at any P5 offer, but there are some P5 DC jobs that would be a faster line to a P5 head coaching gig than as a HC at either the FCS or G5 levels. Plus, I am sure I am not the only person out there that is convinced he is a great defensive mind. He has been lights out productive everywhere he has been on the defensive side of the ball. Couple that with success as a head coach, it isn't a step down to go P5 DC and then have a really nice resume when a P5 HC job opens. I like to think he is happy where he is at or wouldn't leave unless it is a HC gig, but there have a lot of people out there I have seen say one thing and have been drawn to a different plan along the way. To say he wouldn't go anywhere as a coordinator is kind of silly. Period.
You put enough money in front of any NDSU coach and they will say thanks to NDSU as they pack. Everyone has their price.
