I have the honor to be Your Obedient Servant - B.Aud
We all live in stories... It seems to me that a definition of any living vibrant society is that you constantly question those stories... The argument itself is freedom. It's not that you come to a conclusion about it. Through that argument you change your mind sometimes... That's how societies grow. When you can't retell for yourself the stories of your life then you live in a prison... Somebody else controls the story. - S. Rushdie
I know Montana and Texas are different but one thing that doesn't change is ice killing turf. The thing we worry about on the golf course is ice and that's with grass varieties that can take the cold. From what the cab driver told me on the way to the airport, they had a solid weekend of freezing rain with covered everything with 3+ inches of ice. A lot of times you don't know if the turf is going to survive for a little while. On the golf course it comes down to the weather after the ice is gone. You obviously want the warmer weather. Another thing you can get is crown hydration which is a problem when you have a fully hydrated crown and it freezes. Think of a bottle of water that freezes and bursts. That is essentially what happens. Mother Nature is nasty when she wants to be.
The cab driver always has the goods. I hate crown hydration
I really dont see how this is so difficult. If they can keep outdoor concrete from freezing after its poured with industrial heaters they sure as hell should be able to keep a field from freezing with a tarp and said heaters.
If we concentrated on the really important stuff in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles"
When you play football, you gotta like the taste of blood, And 50 percent of the time, it's your blood.
It is characteristic of the unlearned that they are forever proposing something which is old, and because it has recently come to their own attention, supposing it to be new.

You would think or at least to melt the ice off.. Most forecasts are marginally accurate these days, would have known that ice wasn't going anywhere soon. Could have used heat tarps on it to melt it off... May not be readily available in Texas but would only take a phone call and a day at most to get it shipped in. Again probably a cost thing that stopped them... But they lost a good chunk of reputation with the pasture like field.
