Perhaps the reason behind this is the same as the reason behind the fact that there are only 3 ND residents on the men's hockey team at UND....... 3 Nodaks on a 25 man roster, which is better than last year's roster when there weren't any.

Not sure if this was posted already, here is a nice article on Bison recruit Jayse McLean (6' 4")
of Great Falls MT (CM Russell) from March. MSU and Montana not having baseball programs
makes MT a natural recruiting area for NDSU.

McLean, a left-handed outfielder who was named first team all-state, batted .408 with 18 doubles, 11 triples and four home runs in his final season with the Great Falls Chargers American Legion baseball team.
He also follows the footsteps of his dad, who played baseball in college at Minot State University in North Dakota; and his paternal grandfather, Clifton McLean Jr., also known as “Zoonie,” who is “considered behind Roger Maris, the most famous baseball player from North Dakota,” says Jayse.

2014 commit Blake Stockert in American Legion baseball action:

PERHAM — Starting pitcher Blake Stockert threw a three-hit shutout and jacked a two-run insurance homer late in the game as No. 4 Alexandria advanced out of the first round of play at the Sub State 14 American Legion baseball tournament Thursday afternoon with a 5-0 victory over the No. 5 Thief River Falls Bandits.
Stockert kept Thief River Falls in check with a nasty breaking ball that confounded Bandit hitters.

“That’s probably the best I’ve ever thrown it, to be honest,” said Stockert. “I’ve never been that confident with it. I could just throw it for strikes and was really happy with it.”

PERHAM — No. 4 Alexandria scored early and often to down upset-minded No. 7 Fergus Falls 15-3 in seven innings to advance undefeated to the finals of the Minnesota Sub State 14 American Legion baseball tournament.
Cody McLaughlin, Casey Hammerback and Blake Stockert added singles to fuel six runs for a commanding Alexandria lead early.

Blake Stockert and Toby Helgeson had three RBIs each.
