    We have always done it that way, and it's never caused a problem. R/U count the offense and signal each other. As long as they have 11, we are good with 4 in the backfield. If they have less than 11 they hold that signal longer (it's very rare). Trying to count linemen from the wing and then communicating with the other wing is a lot harder than counting guys in the backfield. I know there are some who are adamant about counting linemen though so it's probably how you are taught.

    I do wish HS went to the "no more than 4 in the backfield" rule anyway. A is not gaining an advantage when they only have 10 players in the game with 6 on the line. That is a silly foul. And I've never had it called in one of my games.
