Unfortunately we would never score because they would be called for off sides and we would get down to "half the distance to the goal on the 1 inch line"after the 4th or 5th time running it. maybe the refs would stop blowing the whistle and give us the yards on the kick off.

Now that I'm done laughing, I think that the offense would have the option of declining the penalty and taking the result of the play.

I am pretty sure it gets tacked onto the kickoff and you can take the result of the play. That didn't fit with my nice little story line though

It's called the "swinging gate" and it's be around for about 80 years. Oregon's set and the one in the second video from the link are both versions of it. It's an oldie but a goodie. Sort of hidden ball trick like, every once in a while you'll catch the defense napping and, as you point out, be able to exploit numbers in one section of the field.

I saw Gus Malzahn run it coming out of a timeout back when he was OC at Arkansas in 2006. They ran it coming out of a timeout, and not as an extra point.

Malzahn also ran the "Ryan Smith" Play that year, but Arkansas fans know it as the "Reggie Fish" play.

This is similar to the basketball inbounds play where a player drops to all fours and barks like a dog.... classic!

I ran the "barking dog" play with a junior high girls team.

Pitt State tricked NDSU on this during the playoff game that we lost when we failed to convert the 2 pt. conversion for the win. It's hard to say how the game might have played out differently had they just kicked the extra point but as the scoring went, that was the difference in the game.
