It's a one year deal for basically peanuts in NFL QB terms

What doesn't compute for your brain?

You've literally never heard of 90% of the QB's in the NFL making less that that who are past their rookie contract.
Easy decision for Charges, it's like pulling a few pennies out of the couch and seeing what happens.

And, Easton didn't have any market whatsoever from other teams obviously, or else he wouldn't sign a 1 year deal for basically nothing. (In terms of NFL QB's)
A free agent qb signing a 1 year deal in the NFL after playing for 4 years literally means nobody wants you. The Chargers did him a solid. He was literally free to sign with any team. And nobody wanted him for more than 1 year at 1.8 million.

Yep, all true. And yet, why did the Charger do it? They get a backup for peanuts, with a short term contract that does not behold them if it does not work out. You would not do this is you expected him to be a #3; you would cut him loose and look for a rookie.
